Knox 24-Hour Release Reality
The Knox County Sheriff's Office does not publish an official rolling 24-hour released-inmate feed. Its online publication is the Jail Inmate List PDF. The label matters. It is a snapshot of current custody, with no release-date filter, release-reason field, archive view, or promise that former detainees remain visible for any set period.
A name that appeared in an earlier copy but is missing now establishes only a list change. The person may have posted bond, completed a jail term, been moved to the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction, left on another county's warrant, or been transferred under federal authority. A correction to the roster can also remove a name. The Knox County release record must supply the actual date, time, authority, and destination.
Same-day check: record the time of each search, then call the Jail Division. A changing PDF is not a live release confirmation.
Check Knox Releases Today
Because there is no official feed, the best same-day process starts with present custody and moves at once to direct confirmation. The Jail Division's current number is 740-399-3940. Ask whether the named person remains in Knox County Jail custody. If not, ask for the recorded departure time and whether the person went to the community or another agency.
- Open the dated jail PDF and search the full legal name plus reasonable spelling variants. Save the printed date and the time checked.
- Call the Jail Division at 740-399-3940. Ask about present custody and the recorded release or transfer event.
- Search Common Pleas CourtView for felony or general-division matters, or the Mount Vernon Municipal Court search for matters within that court's jurisdiction.
- Read the filed journal entry near the expected release. Look for bond, dismissal, time served, sentence, conveyance, probation, warrant, or hold language.
- Request the booking and release record from the Sheriff's Records Division when a timestamp or documentary proof is needed.
The order and the jail record should be read together. A bond entry provides legal authority on one case, yet another hold can delay departure. No official Knox County 24-hour table displays release fields online. The current PDF and the underlying release record contain different information. This field map prevents the present-tense roster from being made to answer a past-tense question.

Ohio jail standards require reception and release documentation. A precise request should name the person, approximate booking date, and desired booking episode. Ask for existing fields instead of asking staff to draw a conclusion from several files. Some portions can be redacted or withheld under a stated legal exception.
Read Knox's Dated Roster
The official Knox County Jail Inmate List is useful only as a dated first checkpoint. The captured first page below shows the form of the current-custody publication, not a release list.
The roster's dated print header and custody columns help establish what was visible at one moment. They do not provide a release time, booking number, bond amount, projected release date, or released status. Save the timestamp and move to the jail and court sources.
Knox Release App Limits
No verified Knox County Sheriff jail-information app publishes same-day releases or released-person photographs. The Jail Division page refers to ICS Mobile for inmate phone-call support. ICS Mobile is not a sheriff roster, a release notification product, or a booking-photo search.
This is a key local distinction. App-store results and broad web searches can surface unrelated products, including services for other counties. Knox County, Tennessee also has a different jail system whose pages often appear for similar phrases. Ohio sources use the county's .oh.us domain, Mount Vernon, and the 740 area code. Knoxville and 865 sources do not describe Knox County, Ohio releases.
Note: Ohio VINE can send a feed-based custody notice, but it does not turn ICS Mobile or the county PDF into an official release feed.
Verify Knox Release Custody
When the jail confirms a departure, identify the custody that ended. A local community release may follow bond, recognizance, a court order, dismissal of the controlling hold, time served, or sentence expiration. An ODRC conveyance is not freedom. It ends county custody and begins state custody. Search the ODRC Offender Search only when the case or jail information supports a state-prison transfer.
Ohio VINE may provide prompt notice for a participating agency. Select Ohio, find the correct record, and preserve the event time and reporting agency. Then confirm the event with the jail or court because VINE receives agency data and is not the custodian of the release record. A VINE alert can describe departure from one reporting agency while supervision or another hold continues.
Federal and immigration systems are conditional routes. BOP is for a person committed to federal prison, not every federally charged detainee. ICE is relevant only when an immigration transfer is factually indicated. Knox County's documented U.S. Marshals relationship makes a transfer to another federal contract bed possible, so disappearance from the county list can still mean detention.
Identity checks remain part of same-day verification. Compare the court case number, approximate booking time, charge or offense, and any stable jail or ODRC identifier. A shared name is not enough. If the person has more than one Knox County booking, specify which stay is at issue and keep each release date with its own episode. A release yesterday does not establish that the same person is out today after a later booking.
The source timestamp also belongs in the result. State when the jail PDF was read, when the jail was called, and which agency supplied the release time. If a court order and jail record seem to conflict, quote the disputed fields and ask the creating office about its correction process. Sheriff Records handles Knox booking and release fields, the relevant clerk handles a docket field, and ODRC handles its own status or date. That targeted route is safer than blending different systems into one unsupported conclusion.
Knox Released or Still Held
A person shown on the current Knox jail PDF appears to be in county custody as of that edition. A person absent from it has an unresolved status until the jail, court, or receiving agency supplies positive evidence. - The jail records departure to the community under bond, court order, time served, or another stated authority.
- Transfer
- Knox County physical custody ends, but another jail, ODRC, USMS, BOP, or ICE assumes custody.
- Discharge
- A later end of custody or supervision. It should not be used as a synonym for every jail-door release.
- Roster change
- A name is added, removed, or corrected on the operational list. This is a clue, not release proof.
